Water
You should only use mineral water with a Moka, as the limescale in tap water will affect the taste of the coffee. Also, fill the Moka pot with cold water, as the water needs to heat up gradually.
2
Amount
Pour the water into the Moka Pot boiler without exceeding the valve level, and then fill the coffee filter with ground coffee without pressing it. Twist the top onto the boiler, which will in turn compact the coffee.
3
Heat
Place the Moka pot on a low flame, as the slower the boil the better the coffee will be. Also, by keeping the flame low, the gasket, which should be changed regularly, won’t burn.
Contrary to popular belief, keep the coffee maker cover open in order to avoid any condensation from the steam, which will affect the taste. Once the coffee is ready, take the coffee maker off the heat. Ensure you do not boil the coffee.4
Serving
Before pouring the coffee, take a small, espresso spoon, and stir the coffee inside the Moka pot. This will even out the density of the coffee. In order to fully enjoy the taste and aroma of the coffee, drink the Espresso as soon as it is ready.
5
Maintenance
When cleaning the Moka pot, only use hot water, without soap or detergents, and never put any part of the Moka pot in the dishwasher. The filter should be cleaned thoroughly in order to clean out any residue and coffee deposits.
6
Storage
Ground coffee should always be stored in an air-tight container, and kept in the fridge in order to preserve the rich coffee taste and fragrance.
